“This morning, the city of Goma was struck by a terrorist drone attack carried out by the Tshisekedi Tshilombo regime, targeting the United Nations and the European Union,” AFC/M23 spokesperson Lawrence Kanyuka said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“Among the victims, Carine Buisset, a prominent and respected member of UNICEF staff and a French national, tragically lost her life in this barbaric act.”
The attack follows several reported drone strikes by the Kinshasa government in areas controlled by M23 in the eastern province. In a previous incident, the Democratic Republic of Congo’s state army was accused of carrying out an attack that killed M23 military spokesperson Colonel Willy Ngoma.
Both the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) and M23 have continued to accuse each other of violating the ceasefire in recent weeks, as peace talks in Doha remain strained.
